RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky is set to finish the 2023 football season this Saturday as they take on Stephen F. Austin on Saturday for Senior Day at Roy Kidd Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+ with a radio simulcast available to the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM as Greg Stotelmyer and Wes Chandler on the call for the Colonels.
Pregame festivities will include Senior Day recognition for EKU's senior class including quarterback Parker McKinney ahead of his final game at RKS.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Saturday's game is just the third meeting between the new conference foes as EKU trails in the series, 0-2.
The last meeting between the two teams came in 2021, as the Colonels fell on the road to the Lumberjacks, 31-17.
THE COLONELS
EKU returns home after a 27-24 loss on the road last week to No. 24 Central Arkansas. In the loss, quarterback Parker McKinney threw for 377 yards on 38-of-54 passing through the air with two touchdowns.
After the performance, McKinney sits sixth in the NCAA for total offense per game averaging 291.3 yards per game and 15th in passing touchdowns with 19 on the year.
Fellow senior Logan Blake continues to terrorize opposing offenses moving to fourth in the nation this season in total tackles per game at a clip of 12.1.
The Colonels are 1-0 this season against teams from the Lone Star state this season having previously knocked off Tarleton State, 41-35 in two overtimes back on Oct. 14 at RKS.
SCOUTING THE LUMBERJACKS
SFA hits the road one last time this season to take on Eastern Kentucky for the third time in the short series. SFA currently has a two game win streak against the Colonels. The last meeting between the two teams saw a 31-17 SFA victory on November 6th, 2021 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Brian Maurer started the game at quarterback for the Lumberjacks going 7-16 with 116 passing yards. Preston Weeks took over at quarterback in the third quarter finishing the game as the leading passer for the offense with 12 completions for 174 yards and two passing touchdowns.
The Lumberjacks rushing game struggled against the Thunderbird defense tallying 22 yards rushing with Anthony Williams leading the way with 13 yards.
Head Coach Colby Carthel is in his 5th season with the Lumberjacks and is 26-29 overall. He guided the Lumberjacks last season to the 2022 WAC championship. He has an overall 15-6 home record (.714) which is the highest home winning percentage of any head coach in SFA football history.
