TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Eastern Kentucky University saw Alabama hit 12 three-pointers in the first half and 19 in the game as the Colonels lost 111-67 on Saturday at Coleman Coliseum.

The Crimson Tide (7-5) made eight of their first 11 attempts from long range and connected on 16-of-23 from the field to start the game.Â

Two free throws from
Collin Cooper had EKU within six, 15-9, early in the contest. Alabama responded with a 19-4 run, sinking three from deep. A lay-up from Mark Sears capped it and staked the home team to a 34-13 advantage with 10:17 remaining in the opening period.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Rylan Griffen, the Tide's seventh and eighth in the first 11:40 of the contest, pushed the margin to 23, 41-18.

Alabama led 61-32 at halftime, hitting on 12-of-21 from behind the arc (57 percent) and 23-of-36 (64 percent) from the field overall in the first 20 minutes. Griffen was 4-for-5 from 3-point range in the first half.

Fueled by two 3-pointers from
Michael Moreno, the Colonels (4-8) started the second half with a 13-0 run, hitting 4-of-6 from the field. The Tide missed their first seven shots to start the second stanza. Two free throws from
Leland Walker finished off the spurt that sliced the deficit from 29 to 16, 61-45.

Another 3-pointer from Moreno, with 15:14 left to play, got EKU within 15, 65-50. Moreno went on to hit two more three's but the Colonels never got any closer. Alabama scored 13 of the next 16 to go back ahead by 25, 78-53.

Moreno finished with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from behind the arc.Â
Isaiah Cozart had 19 points and 12 rebounds. Walker led all players with 20 points to go along with six assists.

Alabama shot 58 percent from the field for the game. The Crimson Tide finished 19-of-38 (50 percent) from 3-point range. Griffen and Grant Nelson scored 19 points each for the home squad.

The Colonels shot 34 percent and made just 28 percent of their 3-point attempts (8-for-29).

EKU will face No. 1 ranked Purdue on Friday at 7 p.m. in West Lafayette, Indiana.
