Colonels Go On The Road To Face Hot UNC Greensboro Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Another tough road test awaits EKU on Thursday as the Colonels face North Carolina Greensboro, the No. 4 ranked team in the CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Top 25.
 
The game will begin at 7 p.m. ET and air live on ESPN+.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, or worldwide on EKUSports.com.
 
THE COLONELS
-  Despite leading by seven at halftime on Sunday, EKU fell at Western Kentucky to drop to 3-3 on the season.
 
-  Leland Walker scored a career-best 25 points against WKU.  He hit on 8-of-17 from the field and made 6-of-7 from the free throw line to go along with five rebounds and three assists.  The sophomore is now ninth in the Atlantic Sun Conference in field goal percentage (45.1 percent) and tied for 10th in scoring (14.7 ppg).
 
-  Isaiah Cozart blocked seven more shots in the game against the Hilltoppers, giving him 18 in his last two games and an NCAA-leading 37 for the season.  He also leads the nation with 5.00 offensive rebounds per game.
 
-  EKU has allowed its opponents to shoot 38.3 percent from 3-point range this season, which is ranked 334th among 351 teams in the nation.  UNC Greensboro is 49th in the country, having made 37.7 percent of its 3-pointers.
 
-  The Colonels are 53rd in the nation with 15.33 turnovers forced per game.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  UNC Greensboro is 6-1 this season.  The Spartans beat then 14th ranked Arkansas, 78-72, in Fayetteville on Nov. 17.  The Spartans have won five straight since suffering a 74-70 loss at Vanderbilt in the second game of the season.   
 
- Keyshaun Langley led the Spartans with 23 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field in the win over Arkansas.  He also had five assists, four steals, three rebounds and only one turnover.  Mikeal Brown-Jones finished with 17 points.
 
-  For the season, Brown-Jones leads the team in scoring (18.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg) while shooting 62 percent from the field.  Langley is contributing 13.7 points and 6.7 assists per game.  He has a 4.7 assists-to-turnover ratio.
 
-  UNC Greensboro is shooting 47 percent from the field as a team, which is 87th-best in the nation, and holding its opponents to 39 percent shooting.
 
-  The Spartans have turned the ball over just 8.7 times per game this season, the seventh fewest in the NCAA.  Their opponents average 11.9 turnovers per game.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  The Colonels are 3-0 all-time against UNC Greensboro.  EKU won the first meeting, 78-66, on Nov. 28, 1990 in Richmond and picked up an 80-60 win on Feb. 12, 1992 in Greensboro.  The two teams didn't meet again until the Spartans visited Richmond on Dec. 22, 2022.  The Colonels won that match-up 68-64.
 
-  In last year's game, EKU trailed by five with eight minutes left in the game.  UNCG went more than five and a half minutes without scoring as Devontae Blanton scored eight unanswered to swing the lead to the Colonels, 63-60, with 2:30 remaining.  Blanton finished with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists.  Michael Moreno scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds.  Dante Treacy led UNC Greensboro with 15 points.  Brown-Jones had 12 points.  The Spartans turned the ball over 17 times while the Colonels only had nine turnovers.  EKU held a 17-4 edge in points off turnovers.
