ATLANTA – The Eastern Kentucky University softball program prepares for week two of the Spring with a trip South to Georgia for the Bob Heck Classic hosted by Georgia State from Feb. 17-19.
 
EKU, who opened the season with a 4-1 record at the DePaul Dome Classic, is set for five games in a three-day stretch against Rhode Island, Georgia State, and Purdue Fort Wayne. The Colonels will face URI and GSU on Friday, PFW and GSU on Saturday, and end the weekend with one game against URI on Sunday.

Utility player Vianna Barron earned the ASUN Conference Player of the Week Award on Monday, Feb. 13, the first of the season, after leading EKU in the opening weekend with nine hits, three homers, one triple, two doubles, a .563 batting average, and 10 runs batted in. Barron is fifth in the NCAA in home runs as of Thursday, Feb. 16.
 
Jasmine Miller and Maggie Pertee followed her guidance each with five hits apiece. Pertee knocked the fourth home run of the season for EKU in a win over BGSU.
 
The Colonels were highlighted by pitching performances from sophomore Lauren Narvaez, who left the DePaul Dome Classic with a 2-0 record and 10 strikeouts. Freshmen Emma Bethel and Brooke Davis made their collegiate debuts last weekend, each earning one win and a sub .500 earned run average.
 
After the opening weekend, EKU is fourth in the NCAA in doubles (12) and doubles per game (2.4). The Colonels also rank inside the top-50 in the country in home runs per game (0.8), runs per game (7.2), stolen bases per game (2.6), triples per game (0.4), win/loss percentage (.800), and shutouts (1).
 
EKU leads the ASUN in doubles, doubles per game, fielding percentage, shutouts, and stolen bases.
