KENNESAW, Ga. – EKU women's basketball (13-12, 6-6 ASUN) couldn't contain the Owls' hot shooting on Thursday night, dropping a 70-63 decision in the KSU Convocation Center.
Kennesaw State (10-13, 6-6 ASUN) shot 46 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Colonels 45-30 in Thursday's win to move EKU to .500 in ASUN play.
EKU and KSU battled through the first five minutes, taking both teams to the first quarter media timeout.
Marissa Mackins hit two 3-pointers in this frame to lead the Colonels with six points.
Antwainette Walker sat the majority of the first frame out due to foul trouble, KSU ended the period up 19-15.
Forward
Bridgid Fox scored back-to-back buckets in the second quarter to push her over 500 career points. The Colonels ended the second quarter on a 9-5 run for the haltime lead at 33-32.
Despite the added effort by EKU out of the pause, KSU opened the second half scoring four of the first five baskets to take a three-point advantage. Both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter, KSU retook the lead at 52-48. Walker scored six points in the third for her 23rd consecutive game in double-figure scoring.
Walker carried the Colonels to begin the last 10-minute timeframe, tacking her fourth made basket and two free throws. Kennesaw State pushed its lead to 10, its largest of the contest around the final media timeout. In the last five minutes of play KSU kept the Colonels out of range to secure the win.
Danielle Rainey led the Colonels with 16 points and four made 3-point field goals.
Ariel Kirkwood led EKU with nine rebounds, tying her third highest value of the season.
EKU returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 5:00 p.m. ET with Jacksonville State to conclude its road swing down South.
