Softball Gears Up for Home Opening Weekend

Will Host Colonel Classic Beginning March 2nd

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball program (10-5) looks to open its 2023 home slate with 12 straight home games, beginning on March 2, hosting the Colonel Classic with Dayton, Ohio, and Indiana State at Gertrude Hood Field.
 
Each game the Colonels will be participating in over the weekend will be streamed on ESPN+, EKU's first televised games of the season.
 
EKU will open its 12-game home stand with Dayton on March 2 and running through March 21 hosting in-state rival Louisville. In this span, the Colonels will also begin year two as an institutional member of the ASUN Conference, hosting Liberty in a three-game series from March 17-19.
 
Fans can still purchase season tickets starting at $25 on the Colonels' website, days after the program set their all-time high in season tickets purchased. Single game ticket options are also available, starting from $2-5 for select games.
 
EKU enters Thursday's home tournament winners of five of its last seven games, extending its record to 10-5 through the first three away events of the season. 
 
Vianna Barron has been the leader for EKU through the first 15 games of the 2023 season, leading the team with a .423 batting average, 22 hits, four home runs, and 18 runs batted in.
 
Lou Bowers and Jaelin Haynes each follow with a .340 average from the plate and starting in all 15 of the teams contests. Bowers is second on the team in homers (3).
 
EKU had had success from the circle early in the season, getting 99 innings pitched from underclassmen Lauren Narvaez, Emma Bethel, and Brooke Davis. Narvaez leads the program with 50.2 innings, a 4-3 record, and 18 strikeouts. Bethel and Davis have multiple wins under their belt, with 2-1 and 3-1 records, respectively.
