RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team (12-8), dropping its last three games at home, looks to bounce back in a weekend series with Valpo (3-11) on Saturday and Sunday at Gertrude Hood Field.
EKU will play a doubleheader against the Beacons on Saturday at 1 & 3:30 p.m. The series will conclude on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
All three games this weekend will air on ESPN+. Single game tickets for the Valpo series can be found for as low as $5 on EKUsports.com. Saturday's promotion is "Movie Day" at the ballpark with in-game trivia and movie themed walk-out songs, Sunday's is "Kids Day" and Coca-Cola Hat Giveaway.
The Colonels are coming off a 13-inning loss to Western Kentucky on Wednesday.
Vianna Barron leads EKU with a .400 batting average, 28 hits, and 48 total bases on the season.
Sophomore
Maggie Pertee is second on the team with a .358 BA and 24 hits, she led the Colonels going 3-of-5 from the plate against the Hilltoppers.
Jeanay Riley and
Jasmine Miller enter the weekend on a hot streak, each getting 1-or-more hits in four if their last six games.
Pitcher
Lauren Narvaez enters the weekend series with a 6-4 overall record with 74.1 innings thrown on the season. The Downey, Calif. product is one win shy of tying her totals from last season (7), has improved her ERA from 4.38 to 3.96, and leads the team with 29 strikeouts.
Freshman
Brooke Davis has totaled 21 strikeouts over 35 innings of work. She has a team-leading 2.60 ERA and a 3-2 record.
The Colonels defeated Valpo 9-2 earlier in the season at the DePaul Dome Classic, EKU totaled 13 hits in the win. Barron led the charge with three hits, including a homer and three RBIs.
Lou Bowers,
Rylie Grantz, and Riley followed with two hits apiece. Davis tossed three innings with four strikeouts for her first collegiate victory.
Scouting Valpo
The Beacons enter the weekend with a 3-11 overall record and have lost seven of their last nine games. Valpo went 2-2 over the weekend at the Bellarmine Round Robin with a 6-2 win over the Knights and a 1-2 record over Eastern Illinois.
Junior Regi Hecker leads the Beacons with a .343 batting average and has started in all 14 contests in the outfield.
Easton Seib, a senior from Blue Springs, Mo., is Valpo's main pitcher with a 2-5 record in the circle, tossing 48.2 innings with 18 K's.
Caitlyn Kowalski leads the Beacons with 35 strikeouts. She has a 1-5 record in 28.1 innings of work.
