Baseball Colonels Sweep Doubleheader, Complete Weekend Sweep Of Presbyterian

Game 1 Box Score  |  Game 2 Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Colonels won both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday to complete the weekend three-game series sweep of Presbyterian College at Earle Combs Stadium.

EKU (7-9) won the first game 1-0 in seven innings and took game two by a score of 5-3.

Two Colonels combined to shutout Presbyterian in the 7-inning game one.  Freshman Nathan Lawson earned his first career win after pitching four innings and allowing one hit, two walks and striking out two in his first collegiate start.  Fellow freshman Chase Alderman earned his first career save after tossing the final three innings, allowing two hits, three walks and striking out two.

All the offense EKU would need came in the bottom of the second inning when Roderick Criss II hit his second home run of the season.  With one out, Criss sent a 1-2 pitch over the wall in right field.

The Colonel defense turned three double plays in the game and Hayden Duffield threw out two runners attempting to steal.  Criss finished the first game 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

EKU fell behind 2-0 in the top of the second inning of game two.  Chase Hughes started the inning with a home run and Kyle Decker had a RBI single to right.

In the bottom half of the second, the Colonels answered with four runs.  Michael Goehrig's ground ball with the bases loaded brought in the first run.  After a walk loaded the bases again, two runs came home on an error on a ground ball to second off the bat of Miguel Larreal.  Conner Davis wrapped of the inning with a sacrifice fly to right center.

The Colonels added an insurance run in the eighth.  Ron Franklin Jr. drove in Criss with a single through the right side.

Criss finished 3-for-4 with two runs.  It was his second 3-hit performance of the weekend.  Franklin went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

EKU returns to action on Tuesday for a midweek game at long-time rival Morehead State.  The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
