RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University fell behind 9-1 as Bellarmine scored in each of the first four innings on its way to a 15-5 victory in game two of the weekend series on Saturday at Earle Combs Stadium.
After the Knights (7-12, 2-0 ASUN) scored three times in the top of the first, EKU (7-11, 0-2 ASUN) got on the board in the bottom half of the inning on
Will King's RBI single up the middle. That is as close as the Colonels would get though.
Down 12-1 in the sixth, EKU plated four runs in attempt to claw back into it. King had an RBI double before
DJ Sullivan came off the bench and hit his first home run as a Colonel. The three-run shot made it 12-5.
Colin Bertsch hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh for Bellarmine to extend the lead back to 10. The game ended in seven innings after the Colonels failed to score in the bottom half of the frame.
Bertsch went 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs. Davis Crane had a 3-for-4 day with three runs and three RBIs.
King went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs for EKU.
Logan Thomason also had two hits and scored two runs.
The series finale is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday will be Kids Day and Sandlot Day. All kids 12 and under receive FREE admission and get to run the bases after the game. Fans of all ages will enjoy a classic baseball movie throughout the gameday experience.
