EKU Set To Face No. 1 Indiana State In CBI Quarterfinals

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After earning an overtime win on Sunday, No. 8 seed Eastern Kentucky University will face No. 1 seed Indiana State on Monday in the 2023 Discount Tire College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
 
The game will begin at 12 p.m. ET and air live on FloHoops.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, or worldwide on EKUSports.com.
 
THE COLONELS
-  EKU (21-13, 12-6 ASUN) overcame a 13-point second half deficit and beat No. 9 Cleveland State, 91-75, in overtime in the first round of the Discount Tire CBI.  The Colonels out-scored the Vikings 17-1 in the extra period.
 
-  EKU's 21 wins are tied for the fifth-most in one season by a Colonel team.  Five other squads have won 21, but only four have won more.
 
-  EKU pulled down 20 offensive rebounds against Cleveland State, the fourth time this season the Colonels have had 20 or more offensive rebounds in a game.  EKU out-rebounded CSU 50-29.
 
-  Isaiah Cozart set new career-highs for points (20), rebounds (17), minutes (34), field goals (8) and field goal attempts (16) in the CBI overtime win against Cleveland State.
 
-  Five players scored in double figures against Cleveland State.  Devontae Blanton led the way with 22 points.  In addition to 20 points from Cozart, Leland Walker added 17 points.  Tayshawn Comer had 14 points and Michael Moreno finished with 11.
 
-  This is the second national postseason tournament invitation for the Colonels in the past four seasons.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Indiana State is 23-12 overall and went 13-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference.  The Sycamores finished fifth in the league, but advanced to the semifinals of the MVC Tournament, falling by one to top seed Bradley.   
 
-  ISU is one of the most potent offensive teams in the country, ranking 25th in scoring (79.1 ppg), 17th in field goal percentage (48.1), 19th in 3-pointers per game (9.5) and 18th in free throw percentage (77.2).
 
-  Courvoisier McCauley, a 6-foot-5 transfer guard from DePaul, leads the team in scoring (15.9 ppg) and rebounding (5.8 rpg).  Four players average more than 10 points per game.  Cameron Henry, a 6-foot-6 senior guard, is third in scoring (10.9 ppg), second in rebounding (4.8 rpg) and leads the team in assists (3.8 apg).
 
-  Courvoisier finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds in the Sycamores' 67-62 win over USC Upstate in the first round of the CBI.  Henry had 19 points, six rebounds and three assists.
 
-  Indiana State head coach Josh Schertz won 338 games in 13 seasons as head coach at nearby Lincoln Memorial University.  He took Indiana State from an 11-20 record in his first season to a 23-win campaign in year two.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  The all-time series is tied 3-3.  The first meeting was in Louisville on Feb. 14, 1948, a 59-51 EKU win.  The Colonels' 64-59 overtime win against the Sycamores in Chicago on Nov. 14, 2010 was the most recent meeting and snapped a 3-game ISU winning streak in the series. 
 
-  Devin McDonald scored a game-high 18 points and Willie Cruz converted four clutch free throws in the last meeting between the two teams.  The Colonels shot 40 percent from the field (18-of-45) and from 3-point (6-of-15) range.  Dwayne Lathan came off the bench to lead ISU with 16 points.
