RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky softball team (15-11, 0-3 ASUN) looks to get back in the win column on Tuesday night as it hosts Louisville (18-9, 4-2 ACC) in a midweek clash at Gertrude Hood Field.
First pitch against Louisville will be at 6:00 p.m. ET, tickets are available starting as low as $5 on the Colonels' website. Fans not able to make it out to the ballpark can watch the game on ESPN+ with Wes Chandler on the call.
Tuesday's contest is the second midweek game of the season for EKU, dropping a 13-inning thriller against WKU at home, 4-3.
EKU looks to continue its hot streak from the plate in its midweek, 66 percent of the Colonels' lineup is hitting over .250, including .371 from
Vianna Barron, .368 from
Maggie Pertee, and .303 from
Jasmine Miller. Six of EKU's nine regular starters have played and started in all 26 of the teams' games.
Senior
Lou Bowers enters Tuesday's game with six home runs, which leads the team. EKU has hit 24 long balls on the season against its opponents 17. The Colonels are +14 in homers from this point a season ago.
Sophomore
Lauren Narvaez leads the Colonels with an 8-6 record in 19 appearances in the circle this season. She has a team-leading 37 strikeouts in 92.2 innings pitched.
Brooke Davis, a freshman from Oakdale, Calif., was given the nod in EKU's last midweek, tossing 4.0 innings with three strikeouts against the RV Hilltoppers.
As of Monday, March 20, EKU sits top-50 in the NCAA in doubles, doubles per game, home runs per game, scoring, and walks.
Junior
Jeanay Riley is top-15 in the country and first in the ASUN Conference in doubles with nine.
Tuesday's game is the 12th meeting between EKU and Louisville and the first meeting in over eight seasons. The Cardinals lead the all-time series 7-4 and claimed the last game in the series on March 12, 2016, in Louisville, 6-1.
Scouting Louisville
The Cards are 18-9 on the season and are 4-2 to begin Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, recently swept Pittsburgh in a three-game series at home, outscoring the Panthers 26-12.
Louisville is 2-1 in true midweek games and 3-1 against in-state competition, defeating Bellarmine and Northern Kentucky in shutouts, 13-0 and 7-0, respectively. UofL lost its last midweek to Charlotte on the road by a score of 2-10 in six innings.
Freshman Sarah Gordon leads Louisville with a .444 batting average, starting in all 27 of the teams' games from the catcher position. Gordon has the team lead in hits (36) and doubles (9). Sophomore Korbe Otis follows with a .400 BA and a team-leading three triples.
Taylor Roby leads the Cards with 10 home runs on the season, 803 slugging percentage., and 27 runs batted in.
Louisville is coached by Holly Aprile, who has a 111-98-1 overall record in five seasons at the helm of the program.
The Cards are top-50 in the country in batting average, on base percentage, shutouts, strikeout-to-walk ratio, and triples per game.
