KENNESAW, Ga. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team (15-13, 0-4 ASUN) drops game one of its second ASUN Conference series of the season in comeback fashion to Kennesaw State (10-19, 2-2 ASUN) on Friday night at Bailey Park, 6-5.
Jeanay Riley led the Colonels going 3-of-4 from the plate with two runs. Her triple in the top of the fourth was her first of the season.
Freshman
Jaelin Haynes went 2-for-2 on Friday night with a career-high three runs batted in.
Lou Bowers was the third Colonel with a multi-hit night going 2-of-3 from the plate, moving to 27 hits on the season.
Sophomore
Lauren Narvaez threw a complete six innings with two strikeouts, two walks, and two earned runs on 91 pitches.
EKU's first hit came in the second inning as Riley singled off a 1-2 count.
The Owls opened up their scoring in the bottom of the third, socring four runs with two outs off two errors, two walks, and a single.
EKU responded in the top of the fourth of back-to-back doubles from Haynes and
Jasmine Miller to narrow the gap, 4-2.
Kennesaw State padded its lead in the bottom of the inning off a 2-run triple off the right field wall to go up 6-2.
EKU started the sixth with two singles and a walk to load the bases, Haynes singled through the right two runs and her career-high three RBIs on the day. The Colonels' valiant effort was halted as the following three batters fouled out or struck out.
Narvaez held KSU to no runs in the bottom of the sixth. However, the Owls' Kenley Hilleary earned the save in the top of the seventh after the Colonels got two hits, ending Friday's contest, 6-5.
EKU outhit KSU by a wide gap of 10-6 on the night, leaving six runners on base. EKU was unable to overcome its four errors, allowing four runs to end the first game of the conference series.
