Colonel Baseball Wins Second Straight, Beats Dayton On The Road

DAYTON, Ohio –
The Colonels scored in double figures for the second straight game, and won its second straight, with a 14-8 victory at Dayton on Wednesday.
 
EKU beat Morehead State 10-6 on Tuesday.
 
The Colonels (10-15) pulled away with six runs in the top of the fourth inning.  After Roderick Criss II scored on a wild pitch, Santiago Peralta drew a bases loaded walk.  Miguel Larreal drove in two with a double down the left field line.  DJ Sullivan's single up the middle plated two more and made it a 7-0 game.
 
Charlie Ludwick hit a solo home run to start what turned out to be a six-run fifth inning.  It was his second home run in the last two games and fourth of the season.  Sullivan followed his two-run single in the fourth with a three-run home run in the fifth, his second of the season.
 
Nolan Watson's RBI double to right center in the bottom of the fifth got the Flyers (5-18) on the board, but cut the deficit to just 13-1.  Dayton scored in each of the final five innings to close the gap to six.
 
EKU starter Isaac Milburn (2-3) was nearly untouchable through the first four innings.  He faced the minimum in each, with Dayton's only hit being erased attempting to steal in the third inning.  The sophomore allowed a run in the fifth and two in the sixth.  He finished the day allowing five hits and three runs in five and one-third innings.  He struck out a career-high eight and walked one.  It was also the longest outing of his career.
 
Sullivan went 3-for-6 with a run and five RBIs.  Larreal drove in four, had three hits in six at bats and scored two runs.  Matthew Corlew was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.  The Colonels combined for three doubles, two home runs and nine walks.
 
Watson finished 2-for-2 with an RBI for Dayton.  Paxton Tomaini hit a two-run home run and went 1-for-3 with a run and three RBIs.
 
The Colonels are scheduled to begin a three-game series at home against North Florida on Friday at 6 p.m.
