A Day Later, Colonels Stage 8th Inning Comeback To Win Series Opener

RICHMOND, Ky. –
In a game that was halted in the eighth inning on Friday and completed on Saturday, Eastern Kentucky University scored eight runs after the game resumed to beat North Florida, 15-13, in the ASUN Conference series opener.
 
The game was halted on Friday due to rain, with the Colonels trailing 13-7, and one out and two runners on in the bottom of the eighth inning.
 
Will King, the first batter on Saturday, started with an RBI double to left center.  Charlie Ludwick followed with a three-run home run down the right field line to cut the deficit to 13-11.  After Roderick Criss II drew a walk, Jalen Jones tied the game with a two-run home run over the wall in center field.
 
The Osprey's got the second out of the inning on a fly ball, but pinch hitter Matthew Corlew kept the rally alive with a walk.  Santiago Peralta and Logan Thomason both walked to load the bases.  Max Williams singled to left center to score two runs and complete the eight-run eighth inning.
 
Brock Blanton retired the side in order in the top of the ninth.
 
King finished 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs.  He hit a home run in the third inning on Friday.  Ludwick was 2-for-5 with a run and three RBIs.  Jones went 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs and two RBIs.  Thomason had a 2-for-3 game with three runs scored and an RBI.
 
With UNF leading 3-1 in the bottom of the third, King stepped to the plate with one on and one out.  He sent the second pitch he saw sailing over the left field wall to tie it 3-3.
 
The Ospreys answered in the top of the fourth, taking the lead back on a lead-off home from Cherokee Nichols.  North Florida pulled away with four more runs in the fifth.  Jakob Runnels hit a grand slam in the sixth for another four-run inning that put UNF ahead 12-3.
 
EKU (11-15, 2-5 ASUN) closed the gap in the bottom half of the sixth.  Peralta and Thomason each drew a bases load walk.  Williams followed with a run scoring single to right to make it 12-6.  Peralta then scored on a sacrifice fly of the bat of King.
 
Drew Leinenbach pushed it to a 13-7 Osprey lead with a home run to start the top of the seventh.
 
Aidan Sweat went 4-for-6 with three runs and an RBI for North Florida (14-12, 3-4 ASUN).  Runnels finished with five RBIs.  Leinenbach went 2-for-3 with two walks, a run and two RBIs.
