Eagles Stage Late Comeback to Claim Series Over EKU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – After taking game two on Saturday to even the series, EKU softball (21-19, 5-10 ASUN) drops the final game to Florida Gulf Coast (26-20, 8-7 ASUN) by a score of 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at FGCU Softball Complex.
 
Senior Vianna Barron propelled EKU's 6-2 win over FGCU in game two, hitting an RBI double to left in the first innings and a three-run homer to the same area of the field two innings later. She ended the game going 2-for-3 from the plate with four RBIs and a walk.
 
Pertee was the other Colonel who had a multi-hit game two, scoring a third of EKU's runs by herself.
 
Pitcher Brooke Davis earned the win tossing five innings with two earned runs and one strikeout. Saturday's performance moved her to 6-4 on the season from the circle.
 
Freshmen Lilly Davis and Jaelin Haynes each gathered two hits in game three against FGCU and senior Lou Bowers knocked her eighth home run of the season, accounting for all three of EKU's runs.
 
Game Two: EKU 6, FGCU 2
Saturday's game opened with a bang as Barron tallied her first hit of the day in the top of the first off a double to left center, scoring Maggie Pertee who reached on a fielder's choice out of the three hole.
 
Two innings later, Barron extended EKU's lead to 4-0 with a three-run blast over the left fielder's head. 
 
FGCU mounted a fifth inning rally scoring two runs off four singles, Davis held the Eagles to three hits, striking out one batter in the previous four innings.
 
The Colonels loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, Pertee singled up the middle bringing in Haynes for the 5-2 lead. Jeanay Riley would score two batters later off a wild pitch to pad the lead, 6-2.
 
Sophomore Lauren Narvaez closed the game out only allowing one hit in the last frame.
 
EKU claimed Saturday's game despite FGCU getting on more hit than the Colonels.
 
Game Three: FGCU 5, EKU 3
Davis was selected to start game three for EKU, coming off a five-inning performance the day before. 
 
EKU carried its offensive display from Saturday into the first half of Sunday's contest, as Davis rallied a double down the left field line in the second inning for the first mark of the game.
 
A huge fourth inning production started off a Bowers homer, followed by a triple from Haynes to pad EKU's lead to 3-0.
 
FGCU put on the rally caps in the bottom of the inning, advancing runners into scoring position off a walk and a hit by pitch. The Eagles got on the board off a sac-fly to left with the game 3-1 in EKU's favor.
 
The Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game at three off a double down the line. FGCU would claim a two-run lead the next batter with another double down the chalk, shifting the momentum to 5-3 in the home team's favor.
 
Both teams failed to score a run in the last two innings, however, FGCU held EKU to only one hit to end the series finale 5-3, Eagles.
 
Narvaez drops to 11-13 on the season, earning the loss tossing three innings in relief and allowing four earned runs off four hits.
