EKU Goes On The Road And Beats Marshall

Box Score

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –
Outfielders DJ Sullivan and Roderick Criss II combined to drive in four runs and score four runs as the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team beat Marshall University, 9-2, on Wednesday.

A day after allowing 13 runs to the Thundering Herd in Richmond, two Colonels combined to limit Marshall to two runs on eight hits.  Rian Yates (1-1) started and allowed two runs on three hits in four innings.  Michael Schuler held the home team scoreless over the next five innings, striking out four and scattering five hits.

With one out and one on in the top of the second, Criss sent the ball over the wall in left field to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.  EKU never trailed again.  It was Criss' sixth home run of the season.

The Colonels (16-21) manufactured two more runs in the third.  Logan Thomason started the inning with a double down the left field line, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Miguel Larreal's single up the middle.  Larreal stole second and then came home on Sullivan's two-out single to left center for a 4-1 lead.

Larreal drew a bases loaded walk and Will King had a sacrifice fly in the fourth to push the lead to 6-1.  After the Thundering Herd scored in the bottom half of the fourth, Sullivan started the fifth with a solo home run to push the lead back to five, 7-2.  It was the fifth of the season for Sullivan.

Criss finished 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs and two RBIs.  Sullivan had a 2-for-4 day with a walk, two runs and two driven in.  Thomason had three hits in four at bats and scored twice.

Owen Ayers went 2-for-4 and scored a run for Marshall (15-20).  Chris Noble hit a solo home run.

EKU will begin at three-game ASUN Conference series at North Alabama on Friday.  The series-opener is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
