Colonel Baseball Beats North Florida, Wins Weekend Series

RICHMOND, Ky. –
After the two teams combined for 58 runs while splitting the first two games of the weekend set, Eastern Kentucky University beat North Florida, 6-5, on Sunday to win the ASUN Conference series.
 
Alex Lodise drove in two runs for North Florida with a triple in the top of the first inning.
 
The Colonels (12-16, 3-6 ASUN) erased the deficit in the third.  Charlie Ludwick got EKU on the board when he drew a bases loaded walk with two outs.  Roderick Criss II followed with a grand slam over the wall in right field to put the home team ahead 5-2.
 
It was the 10th home run of the series for the Colonels, and the second for Criss.
 
Both teams scored a run in the fifth on two sacrifice flies.  UNF closed the three-run deficit to one with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth.  Lodise had an RBI single to left, and Cherokee Nichols had a sacrifice fly.
 
After allowing one run in the eighth, Brock Blanton retired the side in order in the ninth to earn his third save of the season.
 
Luke Reed (1-1) earned the win after giving up just two hits in a five inning start.  He allowed three runs, only two of which were earned, walked one and struck out two.
 
Criss finished 1-for-2 with two walks, a run and four RBIs.  Logan Thomason scored twice, going 1-for-3 with a walk.
 
Lodise was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for North Florida (15-13, 4-5 ASUN).
 
The Colonels will take to the road for a three-game series at Jacksonville.  The series begins on Thursday at 7 p.m.
