EKU Title IX Celebration: Softball

Eastern Kentucky University's softball program began in 1993. The Colonels have won three Ohio Valley Conference Championships and three appearances in the NCAA Tournament. In 31 years, EKU has won over 861 games and counting and annually competes for conference championships.

1994    Designated Hitter Jamie Parker named EKU's first First-Team All-OVC selection, the Colonels would go on to have 31 other selections before departing the league.
 
1995    EKU records first winning season in just three years as a program, going 31-29 with wins over Marshall, Georgia Tech, and 13-11 in OVC play. Pitcher Karen Scott named EKU's first OVC Freshman of the Year.
 
1998    Softball improves to 38-19 and 15-5 in league play, defeating in-state foe Kentucky three times on the season: 1-0, 3-2, 13-0. Infielder Kelly Swanson wins EKU's first OVC Player of the Year honor.
 
2000    Catcher Kim Sarrazin named OVC Player of the Year, EKU's second honoree in three seasons.
 
2001    EKU eclipses the 40-win mark in less than 10 seasons as a program.
 
2002    One year after earning its most wins in program history, the Colonels capture their first OVC Championship defeating Tennessee Tech, advancing to NCAA Regionals where the team defeated Alabama A&M two times and an NCAA Tournament appearance against UCLA, UMBC, and South Carolina. Worthington named OVC Coach of the Year for the first time in her career.
 
2003    Pitcher Jonelle Csora named back-to-back OVC Pitcher of the Year awards, the first in EKU program history.
 
2004    EKU wins 42 games in regular season play and wins its second OVC Championship, going 22-4 in league play. The Colonels advanced straight to the NCAA Tournament against UMass and Georgia. Worthington wins second OVC Coach of the Year honor.
 
2008    Jonelle Csora-Clark inducted to EKU Athletics Hall of Fame, the first former softball student-athlete to join the decorated hall in program history. 
 
2013    EKU wins the OVC East Division, returns to the OVC title game for the first time in over eight seasons.
 
2015    Pitcher Leanna Pittsenbarger was rated as the top NCAA Division I pitcher by Fastpitch News.  She would go on to break the EKU record for career strikeouts.
 
2016    Pitcher Hayley Flynn set a new program record with 26 strikeouts against Eastern Illinois. The hurler went on to become the first softball Colonel to ever sign a professional contract, playing for the Pennsylvania Rebellion.
 
2018    EKU wins a program record 45 games and advances to its first NISC Regional, hosted in Richmond, defeating Towson and Toledo. The Colonels would move on to the NISC Championship in Los Angeles taking on UC Riverside and UT Arlington. Outfielder Paige Murphy named the first All-American in program history. Worthington wins third OVC Coach of the Year honor.
 
2021    The Colonels claimed their third OVC Championship in the final year as a member of the conference, going 35-15 and 22-9 in league play. EKU advanced to the NCAA Tournament for its third time in the Knoxville regional facing Tennessee and Liberty.
 
2022    EKU embarks on its first season in the ASUN Conference after spending the previous 29 seasons in the OVC.
