Box Score RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU softball team scored seven runs in the third inning as the Colonels defeated Jacksonville 9-1 on Friday afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field.
EKU (20-17, 4-8 ASUN) completed its first home ASUN series sweep ever with the victory over the Dolphins (18-20, 4-8 ASUN).
Jacksonville plated its lone run in the top of the third inning, but the Colonels responded immediately. After a single and a walk to open the frame,
Maggie Pertee doubled down the left field line to score
Jaelin Haynes and tie the game. Two batters later,
Lou Bowers drove home two with a single to give EKU a 3-1 lead.
Lilly Davis kept the momentum rolling with an RBI single and
Rylie Grantz brought Bowers home with an RBI groundout to extend the Colonels' advantage to 5-1. A fielder's choice and a throwing error brought home two more to put EKU up 7-1 after three innings.
Bowers ended the day early with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to give EKU its fourth consecutive win.
Lauren Narvaez (11-11) earned her second win of the weekend, holding the Dolphins hitless in 3.1 innings of relief. Bowers tied her season high with four RBI on the day, while Pertee finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
EKU travels to Florida Gulf Coast next weekend for a road ASUN series.
