Colonels Fall To Liberty In Game Two Of Weekend Series

RICHMOND, Ky. – 
Will King hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, but Liberty scored 10 runs combined in the first two innings on the way to a series tying 15-12 victory Saturday at Earle Combs Stadium.
 
The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.  Sunday will be Senior Day and Kids Day.  EKU's eight seniors – Roderick Criss II, Michael Goehrig, Jalen Jones, Charlie Ludwick, Michael Schuler, Logan Thomason, Anthony Vargas and Chris Hamann – will be honored before the game.  All kids 12 and under receive FREE admission and get to run the bases after the game.
 
The Flames scored four times in the top of the first inning.  With one out and one on in the bottom half, King drove a 1-1 pitch over the wall in right field for his 12th of the season.  The Colonels have now hit a home run in 13 straight games.
 
Liberty (23-26, 13-13 ASUN) pulled in front by eight with six runs in the top of the second.  Nathan Keeter capped the big inning with a bases clearing double to right field.
 
EKU (27-25, 14-12 ASUN) clawed back to within three.  After platting three runs in the bottom of the second, Michael Goehrig's two-run double in the third made it a 10-7 game.  The Colonels held the Flames scoreless in the third and fourth innings, but a three-spot in the fifth allowed Liberty to go ahead by six, 13-7. 
 
Roderick Criss II added a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth for EKU.  It was the Colonels' 50th home run in their last 22 games.
 
EKU made one more run, scoring three in the bottom of the eighth to get back within three.  DJ Sullivan had a RBI single and Criss drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
 
Criss finished 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBIs.  King was 2-for-4 with two walks, a run and two driven in.
 
Kane Kepley hit for the cycle for the Flames, finishing 6-for-7 with three runs and an RBI.  He had three singles, a double, a triple and a home run.
