LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team (1-0, 0-0 ASUN) travels up I-75 to face off against #11 Kentucky (0-0, 0-0 SEC) on Monday, Jan. 15 at 4:00 p.m. at Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
THE COLONELS
EKU won its first match of the season against Xavier at home by a score of 4-3.
Moritz Mayer won his doubles match with
Mario Monclus Martin from the No. 1 court, 6-3. The Colonels earned the doubles point against Xavier when
Paul-Antoine Brazet and
Kristoffer Stahlbrand won from the No. 3 spot, 6-3.
Mayer also won his singles match against Xavier in straight sets from the No. 4 position, 6-3, 6-2.
Fernando Bulnes earned his first career Division I singles win against the Musketeers in a three-set thriller from the No. 3 court, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Brazet clinched the match for the Colonels, as he won his singles match in straight sets from the No. 6 spot, 6-3, 6-3.
SCOUTING #11 KENTUCKY
Kentucky plays the Colonels on the back end of a doubleheader on Monday, as they will face in-state rival Northern Kentucky at 11:00 a.m.
The Wildcats were led by Joshua Lapadat in 2023 in singles play, posting a 20-4 record from the No. 2 and No. 3 courts.
Kentucky won the SEC Championship in 2023 and ended its season against #5 Virginia in the NCAA Tournament.
The Wildcats own a 44-7 all-time record against the Colonels. Kentucky won 7-0 in their last meeting on Jan. 19, 2018.
