RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team (1-1, 0-0 ASUN) looks to bounce back against UIC (0-0, 0-0 MAC) on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
There will be a poster giveaway for fans attending the match.
THE COLONELS
EKU opened its 2024 season with a 4-3 win against Xavier on Jan. 13 but lost to #11 Kentucky by a score of 7-0 on Jan. 15.
Against Xavier,
Mario Monclus Martin and
Moritz Mayer won their doubles match from the No. 1 court, 6-3.
Paul-Antoine Brazet and
Kristoffer Stahlbrand also won 6-3 in doubles from the No. 3 spot.
Mayer won his singles match in dominating fashion against Xavier from the No. 4 position, 6-3, 6-2.
Fernando Bulnes earned his first Division I singles win in a three-set thriller, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Brazet clinched the match for the Colonels, winning his singles match in straight sets from the No. 6 court, 6-3, 6-3.
Thursday's matchup is the first meeting between UIC and EKU.
SCOUTING UIC
The Flames play EKU in their season opener and they enter their first season as an affiliate member of the Mid-American Conference for men's tennis.
UIC posted a 9-14 record in 2023 and ended their season in the quarterfinals of the Southland Conference Tournament. Aleska Bucan led the Flames in singles play last season, posting a 14-7 record from the top two spots in the lineup.
The Flames added Queens transfer Edoardo Bottino, who earned ASUN Second Team All-Conference honors last season.
