RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team returns home for the first time in three weeks for a Homecoming clash with conference foe, Utah Tech this Saturday.
Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET at CG Bank Field at Roy Kidd Stadium. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and simulcast on WCYO 100.7 FM, with Greg Stotelmyer, Jim Tirey, and Wes Chandler on the call.
The Colonels are looking to get back in the win column and keep their unbeaten home record intact after consecutive road losses in United Athletic Conference play to Southern Utah and then No. 17 Abilene Christian.
Under head coach
Walt Wells, the Colonels have never lost a Homecoming game including a thrilling double overtime win against Tarleton State last season.
EKU (3-4, 1-2) and the Trailblazers of Utah Tech (0-8, 0-4) met for the first time last season in St. George, Utah with the Colonels coming away with a 34-30 road win.
The Colonels
EKU will look to ride the hot hands of wide receiver
Dequan Stanley and running back
Joshua Carter this Homecoming.
Stanley has emerged as a top target for quarterback
Matt Morrissey, with five touchdown receptions in the last six games. On the season, the St. Augustine, Fla. native leads the Colonels with 24 receptions and 365 receiving yards.
On the ground, Carter has powered his way to the endzone with six touchdowns in the last five games.
On defense, the Colonels will look to cause chaos with turnovers with two takeaways last week, now facing a Trailblazers team that has a turnover margin of negative-eight.
Kicker
Patrick Nations continues to close in on Colonel history as he sits just seven points away from breaking the program record of 285 kicking points in a career set by Taylor Long from 2005-2008.
Scouting the Trailblazers
Utah Tech makes its first-ever trip to the Bluegrass State in search of its first win of 2024 and under first-year head coach Lance Anderson.
The Trailblazers come to Richmond on the heels of their closest game of the season suffering a 13-7 loss at home last week to Austin Peay.
In the loss, safety Brevin Hamblin racked up a game and career-high 12 tackles against the Governors, the third straight game he has recorded double-digit tackles.
On offense, coach Anderson will look to freshman quarterback Bronson Barben who is slated to make just his fourth appearance in his young career.
Utah Tech will look to get its offense going with only three touchdowns over its last 12 quarters of play.
