RICHMOND, Ky. - After kicking the season back into gear a week ago at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, the Eastern Kentucky cross country teams are back in action as they make the short trip to Louisville to compete in the Live in Lou Classic on Saturday, Oct. 5.
The event is one of the largest in the country, hosting both high school and collegiate level races at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. Joining the Colonels at the starting line will be a host of schools from across the divisions, as well as NAIA and junior college.
The women's squad will kick things off on Saturday with the 5K Gold race at 10:15 a.m. followed by the men in the 8K Blue race at 10:45 a.m.
The Colonel men come into the event ranked No. 16 in the country after finishing seventh-place overall at the Nuttycombe Invitational.
Justine Kipkoech led the way for EKU in his debut in the Maroon & White, finishing 13th with a time of 23:40.6 in the men's Championship 8K.
Tomas Vega and
Mario Priego Montero had impressive first showings for the Colonels as well, finishing 49th and 51st with times of 24:12.2 and 24:12.9 respectively.Â
For the women,
Karin Gosek secured a top-ten finish in her first race as a Colonel in the women's 6K B race. Gosek crossed the line in seventh, clocking a 21:33.3.
Khadija Ennasri,
Lucy Thornton, and
Clara Barbosa notched top-50 finishes as well. Ennasri finished 40th with a time of 22:30.1 while Thornton finished 45th with a 22:43.9. Barbosa clocked in a 22:54.1 to finish 48th.
