JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior Josie Schmitendorf was chosen as the Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week and senior Sarah Mitchell was chosen as the ASUN Player of the Week on Monday.
 
The duo led EKU (19-8, 10-4 ASUN) to wins over Bellarmine (3-1) and Stetson (3-1) last week.
 
It is the fourth time this season Schmitendorf has received the recognition from the conference.  It is the first time this season that Mitchell has garnered the weekly award for top player. 
 
In two matches last week, Schmitendorf averaged 5.25 digs per set, finishing with 42 total digs.  The libero from Huntley, Illinois also averaged 2.00 assists per set.  She had a match-high 15 digs against Bellarmine and a match-best 27 digs at Stetson.
 
Schmitendorf is third in the ASUN, and 39th in the nation, this season with 4.76 digs per set.
 
Mitchell averaged 4.88 kills, 2.50 digs and 0.63 aces per set while hitting .362.  She made just five errors in 94 attempts.  She totaled 39 kills, 20 digs and five aces across two matches.
 
The outside hitter from Berea, Kentucky had a match-high 13 kills with only two errors and a .393 attack percentage against Bellarmine.  She also had 15 digs, three aces and one block against the Knights.  Mitchell led all players with a career-high 26 kills at Stetson, finishing with only three errors in 66 attempts for a .348 attack percentage, 14 digs and two aces.
 
Mitchell is eighth in the league in points (3.90/set) and kills (3.41/set).
 
EKU will conclude the regular season at home this weekend against Central Arkansas at 6 p.m. on Friday and North Alabama on Saturday at 4 p.m.  There will be a coffee bar and iced coffee cup giveaway on Friday.  Senior Day is set for Saturday.
