RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team hits the road this week to take on rival Austin Peay in Clarksville, Tennessee on Saturday afternoon.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET at Fortera Stadium. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and simulcast on WCYO 100.7 FM, with Greg Stotelmyer and Wes Chandler on the call.
Saturday's meeting will mark the 56th all-time between the two programs with EKU leading the all-time series, 46-9, but the Governors have won four of the last six games.
Two of the last four games between these two have gone to overtime including their last meeting which saw the Governors take a 33-30 win in overtime at Roy Kidd Stadium in 2023.
The Colonels travel to Clarksville on the heels of back-to-back wins over ranked opponents most recently defeating then No. 16 Central Arkansas, 31-24 at home.
The win kept EKU's hope of an FCS Playoff push alive and marked the first time since 2008 that the Colonels have defeated two ranked teams in the same season.
The Colonels
EKU will continue to look to its defense which has only allowed an average of just 18 points over the last three games and post 14 takeaways throughout this season.
On offense fans can expect a heavy dose of running back
Joshua Carter who has had the game winning score in back-to-back weeks.
The Florida native has scored six times in the last four games, he's recorded scores in eight straight games and is averaging five yards per carry.
Carter enters Saturday only 61 yards away from eclipsing 2,000 rushing yards in a career and 78 yards away from reaching 1,000 rushing yards this season.
Punter
Jacob Baker continues to be a weapon for the Colonels on special teams he has had 17 punts downed inside opponents' 20 and 13 punts of 50 yards or more.
Scouting the Governors
Austin Peay is 4-6 so far this year under first year head coach Jeff Faris. Most recently, the Govs fell in a narrow 35-34 loss to conference leader Abilene Christian.
The matchup with the Colonels is the second of three straight games at home for APSU to end the season.
The Govs' quarterback Austin Smith has thrown for 300 yards in back-to-back games including their 31-17 win over North Alabama.
His favorite target has been wide receiver Jaden Barnes who ranks fifth in the FCS in receiving yards with 895 and sixth in yards per reception with 20.34.
