ARLINGTON, Texas – For the fourth straight week a member of the Eastern Kentucky University football team has earned conference player of the week honors with
Maddox Marcellus being named the UAC's Defensive Player of the Week this afternoon in a league announcement.
Marcellus' first player of the week honor comes after a stellar performance in the Colonels' 17-13 road upset of then No. 7 Tarleton State.
In the win, Marcellus recorded nine tackles, four being solos, and got his second takeaway in two games with a pivotal interception.
The interception came on TSU's first drive of the second half, intercepting a pass over the middle and returning in 29 yards to set EKU up for a field goal opportunity that was converted.
The Colonels' win marked the program's first win over a top-10 team on the road since 2006 when EKU knocked off No. 8 UT Martin.
The Miami, Fla. native joins
Joshua Carter,
Patrick Nations, and
Marcus Calwise Jr. as Colonels to earn conference player of the week honors this season.
