Soccer Continues ASUN Title Pursuit at Top-Seeded FGCU

Third ASUN Semifinals Appearance in Four Seasons

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The No. 5 seeded Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team will continue its journey in the 2024 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament against top-seed FGCU on Thursday night at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
 
Thursday's match is scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. EST and can be viewed live on ESPN+.  Fans looking to see the Colonels in action can purchase tickets here.
 
The winner of Thursday's semifinal matchup with advance to the championship to face either No. 2 Central Arkansas or No. 3 Lipscomb on Sunday, Nov. 10.

EKU is coming of a 1-0 win over No. 4 seed North Florida in the quarterfinals last Sunday, the program's 11th victory of the 2024 season.  The win marked EKU's third time advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament in four seasons as a member institution of the league.
 
Senior forward Gretta Gunn logged the game-winning goal in Sunday's match, the second of the season and seventh of her career.  Sophomore wingers Chiara Premoli and Paula Herranz recorded assist towards Gunn's goal. 
 
Scouting FGCU
The top-seeded Eagles are coming off a 4-0 tune-up win over New College of Florida on Nov. 2 in preparation for the ASUN Tournament, prior to that, FGCU defeated Stetson 2-0 on Oct. 26 in its regular season finale.
 
FGCU has scored an ASUN-leading 42 goals this season, led by First Team All-ASUN midfielder Erika Zschuppe who had totaled 11 this season – which is second in the conference.  The Eagles are winners of five straight heading into Thursday's contest, FGCU head coach Jim Blankenship was named the ASUN Coach of the Year and had 12 other selections to the ASUN women's soccer postseason awards.

History vs. FGCU
EKU and FGCU met earlier this season in Lexington and the Colonels came away with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Eagles, handing them their only loss in conference play this year.  Thursday's semifinals matchup is the fifth meeting between the two programs since 2021, FGCU leads the series 2-1-1.
