BEREA, Ky. – A cold shooting night led to EKU women's basketball dropping its home opener to Tennessee State by a score of 66-48 on Friday night at the Seabury Center on the campus of Berea College.
Senior guard
Alice Recanati led the Colonels with 13 points and three assists. Senior forward
Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor recorded nine rebounds and one block in 25 minutes of playing time.
Freshman guard
Mya Wardle collected the first points of her collegiate career in the loss going 2-for-6 from beyond the arch to finish with seven points. Her night was highlighted by hitting a half-court heave as time expired in at the end of regulation.
EKU shot 28.3 percent (17-for-60) from the floor and 12.5 percent (2-for-16) from deep for its second straight loss to open the 2024-25 season.
Tennessee State shot 42.6 percent (26-for-61) from the floor and knocked down 10 three-pointers to move to 2-0 on the young season. The Tigers' 10 made threes were their most since Feb. 17 of last season in a 13-point win over Western Illinois.
TSU outscored EKU by 11 points in the first quarter and 14 points in the second quarter to go into the halftime break with a 39-14 lead over the Colonels.
EKU won both the third and fourth quarters by 11-10 and 23-17 margins but were unable to overcome its shooting woes in the first half to end Friday's contest on the wrong end of a 66-48 score.
The Colonels return to action on Sunday afternoon against Southern Illinois on the road. The game can be streamed live on ESPN+ starting at 3 p.m. ET or heard over the air on 92.5 WEKY with pregame coverage starting at 2:30 p.m. ET.
