Colonels Open EKU MTE on Monday, Will Host Indiana State and Northern Illinois

MTE Runs from December 15-17 in Downtown Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball program is set to host Indiana State and Northern Illinois in the EKU MTE from Dec. 15-17 at the Clive M. Beck Center in Downtown Lexington.
 
The event is scheduled to begin on Sunday as NIU and ISU will square off at 2 p.m. EST.  The latter two games on Monday and Tuesday will feature EKU, with the Colonels taking on ISU at 2 p.m. on Monday and NIU at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
 
Fans can find tickets to all three games online here.  Additionally, ESPN+ will have the broadcast for games EKU plays in on Monday and Tuesday.
 
EKU (7-3) is coming off a flight halfway across the world where the Colonels defeated Hawai'i Hilo by a score of 78-49 on its home floor.  Senior guard Alice Recanati led the Colonels with 20 points on 70 percent shooting while fellow guards Kaitlyn Costner scored 19 and Liz Freihofer dropped 11. 
 
On the glass, forwards Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor and Raphaela Toussaint combined for 23 rebounds, both recording season-high values of 13 and 10, respectively.  Both neared double-doubles in the win.
 
The Colonels' victory over UHH moved the program to a 7-3 overall record as the non-conference schedule winds down, with two of the final three remaining games being played this weekend.  Entering the MTE, EKU has won six consecutive games since Nov. 14 and is 2-1 at home and 5-2 in true road contests.
 
Scouting Indiana State
The Sycamores open the EKU MTE on Sunday against Northern Illinois and enter the contest with a 2-6 record under first-year head coach Marc Mitchell.  Indiana State has lost their last two games, both on the road at Marquette (83-67) and Eastern Illinois (73-60).  Sophomore guard Keslyn Secrist leads ISU with 14.4 points per game and has scored double figures in all eight of the team's games this season, including a season-high 21 points in a loss to Western Kentucky.
 
History vs. Indiana State
Sunday's game marks the fifth meeting between Indiana State and EKU, the Sycamores lead the all-time series 4-0 after traditional home and home matchups from 1992-93 and 2004-05.
 
Scouting Northern Illinois
Northern Illinois enters play on Sunday against Indiana State with a 3-4 overall record, however, have dropped its last two games to Illinois-Chicago (69-66) and Missouri (94-55).  Junior guard Alecia Doyle leads the Huskies with 13.4 points per game, scoring 12 points last game against Missouri.
 
History vs. Northern Illinois
Tuesday's game between NIU and EKU is the first meeting for the two schools.
