Colonels Conclude Non-Conference Slate at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – EKU women's basketball will end the non-conference portion of its 2024-25 schedule on Sunday afternoon against Samford at the Pete Hanna Center.
 
Sunday's game is scheduled to tipoff at 3 p.m. ET and can be viewed on ESPN+ or heard online at 92.5 WEKY.  Those wishing to see the Colonels live can purchase tickets here.
 
EKU (9-3) enters Sunday's game winners of its last eight games, marking the program's longest win streak since 2005, and are averaging just under 82 points per game in the stretch with four wins by 20 or more points.
 
Freshman guard Liz Freihofer is the reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman and Newcomer of the Week after putting up 35 points across two games in the EKE MTE before Christmas break.  The Union, Kentucky native has won the ASUN Freshman of the Week honor in three of the last four weeks and has accumulated five conference weekly honors on the season.  She is third on the team averaging 10.9 PPG off the bench and has scored in double figures in her last five games.
 
Leading the Colonels offensively is senior guard Kaitlyn Costner who is averaging 13.6 PPG and has scored in double figures in eight of her last 10 games. 
 
Additionally in the EKU MTE against Indiana State and Northern Illinois, senior guard Althea Kara Angeles recorded 40 points and senior forward Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor has consecutive double-doubles combining for 35 points and 24 rebounds.
 
Scouting Samford
Samford (4-10) has dropped its last two contests against No. 12 TCU and Florida A&M entering play on Sunday.  Three of the Bulldogs' four wins have come against non-DI opponents and Samford is 1-2 against fellow ASUN teams this season.  Junior forward Emily Bowman leads the program with 11.9 points and 9.9 rebounds per game – she has six double-doubles this season and had a season-high 21 rebounds in a win over North Alabama on Nov. 30.
 
History with Samford
Sunday's game marks the 14th meeting between the Bulldogs and Colonels since 2002.  EKU leads the head-to-head series 7-6 and claimed the last meeting between the two schools by a score of 59-54 last season in Richmond.
