RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team (9-3, 0-0 ASUN) plays in three matches this weekend. First, the Colonels will compete against Campbellsville (1-1, 0-0 MSC) on Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Greg Adams Tennis Center. Then, EKU will play in a rematch against Northern Kentucky (2-4, 1-0 Horizon) at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex. On Sunday, Feb. 18, the Colonels will face off against North Dakota (2-7, 0-0 Summit) at 5:00 p.m. at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
THE COLONELS
The Colonels enter the matches with a 9-3 record, winning their seventh straight match against Belmont by a score of 4-3 on Feb. 9.
The Maroon and White are led by
Moritz Mayer, who boasts a 9-3 mark in singles play this season. He beat Georgia's Miguel Perez Pena in singles play on Jan. 22, who was the No. 43 singles player in the country, as it was the highest-ranked singles win in program history. The Eutingen, Germany product won the ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week twice.
Evzen Holis won the ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Feb. 14, as he won six consecutive singles matches. Holis has a 7-3 record in singles from the top two courts.
Fernando Bulnes and
Paul-Antoine Brazet have six wins each in singles play.
Kristoffer Stahlbrand clinched the match for EKU against the 2023 Horizon League champions, winning from the No. 6 spot in a three-set thriller, 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-3).
Bulnes and Holis are the leading pair in doubles, as they have a 6-2 mark from the top two spots in the lineup. The Colonels have won the doubles point in six out of their last seven matches.
SCOUTING CAMPBELLSVILLE
Campbellsville enters the contest with a 1-1 mark, losing to Cumberlands by a score of 4-3 on Oct. 7. The Tigers are receiving votes in the latest ITA NAIA team rankings. Campbellsville is led by Hernan Toledo in singles, as he is ranked No. 39 in the latest ITA NAIA singles rankings. The Colonels own a 4-0 all-time record against the Tigers, including a 6-1 win in 2023.
SCOUTING NORTHERN KENTUCKY
Northern Kentucky enters the match with a 2-4 mark, beating ASUN foe Lipscomb, 4-2, on Feb. 10. The Norse are led by Nick Nienhaus in singles, posting a 3-2 mark from the No. 1 position. The Colonels beat NKU by a score of 5-2 at the Greg Adams Tennis Center on Feb. 7. EKU leads the all-time series 11-2 against the Norse.
SCOUTING NORTH DAKOTA
North Dakota enters the contest with a 2-7 record, falling to Air Force by a score of 6-1 on Feb. 11. The Fighting Hawks compete against ASUN rival North Alabama on Feb. 17 before facing the Colonels. This will be the first match in the all-time series between North Dakota and EKU.
