Colonels Use Stingy Second Half Defense To Turn Out The Knights

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University limited Bellarmine to 38 percent shooting and 28 points in the second half on the way to a 75-65 win over the Knights on Saturday in Louisville.
 
Bellarmine shot 40 percent from the field and hit on 6-of-11 from 3-point range (54.5 percent) while scoring 37 points in the first half.  The Colonels (15-11, 10-2 ASUN) forced the Knights to go 0-for-8 from behind the arc in the second stanza.
 
Langdon Hatton tied the game for Bellarmine, 59-59, with a lay-up at the 9:22 mark.  EKU answered, going on a 12-2 run to seize control of the contest.  The Knights made just one field goal in nearly five minutes of action. 
 
Collin Cooper hit a pair of 3-pointers during the run.  His second from long range followed by a free throw from Devontae Blanton capped it and put the visitors ahead 71-61 with 5:04 to play.  EKU allowed just four more points the rest of the game.
 
Isaiah Cozart led the Colonels with 17 points.  He added 10 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season.  Michael Moreno also recorded a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
 
EKU shot 44 percent from the field for the game and out-rebounded Bellarmine by six, 41-35.  The Colonels scored 18 second chance points off 12 offensive rebounds.
 
Turner Buttry hit three 3-pointers and finished with 10 points off the bench for EKU.  Leland Walker added 16 points and five assists.
 
Bash Wieland had a game-best 19 points for Bellarmine (6-21, 2-10 ASUN).
 
EKU will play its final two home games of the regular season next week, starting Thursday against North Alabama.  Tip-off at Baptist Health Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
