Colonels Beat Oakland To Open Series In Richmond

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Conner Davis had two doubles and Max Williams drove in four runs as Eastern Kentucky University opened a 3-game home series against Oakland University with a 10-5 win on Friday at Earle Combs Stadium.
 
After falling behind 1-0, the Colonels scored three times in the second.  Freshman catcher Silas Shaffer led off the inning with his first career home run.  Freshman Tait Nunnally followed with a walk and Davis doubled down the left field line to put two runners in scoring position for Williams.  The senior outfielder poked a single through the right side to plate both runs and make it 3-1.
 
Oakland scored a run in the third and then tied it in the fourth on a solo home run from Brandon Heidal.
 
Santiago Peralta broke the tie with a solo home run to start the bottom of the fifth.  The Colonels (1-4) scored four more runs in the inning.  Williams capped it with a 2-run double to put the home team on top 8-3.
 
Williams went 2-for-4 with four driven in.  Davis was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Nunnally, DJ Sullivan and Miguel Larreal also had two hits each.
 
Nathan Lawson (1-0) started and earned the win.  He allowed three runs, only one of which on earned, on seven hits and struck out six.  The sophomore did not walk a batter in five innings.
 
Reggie Bussey, who entered the game batting .583, led the Golden Grizzlies (1-3) with three hits in five at bats and scored a run.  Hunter Pidek pitched seven shutout innings in Oakland's season opener at Saint Mary's, but allowed six runs on five hits and three walks in four and two-thirds innings against the Colonels.
