RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU fell behind early and despite hitting two ninth inning home runs, couldn't complete the comeback bid in a 5-4 loss to Oakland University on Saturday at Earle Combs Stadium.

The Golden Grizzlies (2-3) scored three in the first to grab the early lead. Ian Cleary started the scoring with an RBI double to left center. The Colonels (1-5) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a ground ball from
Miguel Larreal that scored
DJ Sullivan and made it 3-1.

Oakland added one in the fifth and another in the sixth to move in front 5-1.Â

Boone Shevey's solo home run in the bottom of the seventh made it a 3-run game. It was his first of the season. Shevey hit another in the ninth.Â
Max Williams followed Shevey's shot with one of his own, down the right field line to get the home team within one.

Oakland starter Brandon Decker allowed just two runs on six hits in six and one-third innings. He struck out four and walked one. Cleary finished 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.

Shevey finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Williams was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Sullivan finished with two hits as well.
