Oakland Uses Big Third Inning To Beat EKU In Series Finale

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University allowed eight runs in the third inning, fueling Oakland University's 19-5 victory in the series finale on Sunday at Earle Combs Stadium.
 
The Golden Grizzlies (3-3) led 4-2 entering the third.  Oakland banged out seven hits in the frame.  Sam Griffith had a 2-run single.  John Lauinger capped it with a run scoring single to right center.
 
After Brandon Heidal hit a grand slam in the first inning for Oakland, the Colonels (1-6) cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second.  Freshman Mauri Bejarano launched a 2-run home run over the wall in right center for his first collegiate dinger.
 
Five runs for the Golden Grizzlies in the sixth to put the run rule in effect.
 
Bejarano finished 1-for-1 with two walks, two runs and two RBIs.  Heidal had a 2-for-3 day with two runs and five driven in for Oakland.
 
EKU will play at Louisville on Tuesday.  The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET.
