NASHVILLE - The Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team (8-3, 0-0 ASUN) hits the road for a match against former OVC foe Belmont (0-2, 0-0 Horizon) on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Ensworth Tennis Center.
 
THE COLONELS
EKU enters the match with an 8-3 record, as they beat Northern Kentucky, 5-2, and Georgetown College (Ky.) by a score of 6-1 on Feb. 7. The Colonels are tied with No. 1 Ohio State, No. 16 Michigan State, and Navy for the most wins in the country. EKU is also tied with No. 1 Ohio State and Navy for the best home record (8-0) in the nation.
 
The Maroon and White are led by Moritz Mayer, who boasts a 9-2 mark in singles play this season. He beat Georgia's Miguel Perez Pena in singles play, who was the No. 43 singles player in the country, as it was the highest-ranked singles win in program history. The Eutingen, Germany product won the ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week twice and has won seven consecutive singles matches.
 
Fernando Bulnes has a 6-2 record in singles play this season from the No. 3 court, winning four straight matches. Evzen Holis has a 6-3 singles record this season, beating Georgetown College's Maxcene Barriere in his last match, who is the No. 29 singles player in the NAIA. Paul-Antoine Brazet clinched both contests for the Colonels on Wednesday, winning his singles matches in straight sets.
 
Bulnes and Holis are the leading pair in doubles, as they have a 5-2 mark from the top two spots in the lineup.
 
SCOUTING BELMONT
Belmont enters the contest with a 0-2 mark, losing to ETSU and Vanderbilt. Ian Cruz leads the Bruins in singles play this season, posting a 2-0 record from the No. 3 court. Belmont posted a 21-6 record in 2023 while winning the Horizon League Championship, but they lost by a score of 4-1 to No. 8 Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
