EKU Downs Queens 88-67 on Play4Kay Night

Five Colonels Scored in Double Figures

RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU's Greg Todd becomes the fastest coach in EKU program history to record 50 wins with an 88-67 win over Queens University of Charlotte on Thursday night inside Baptist Health Arena.

EKU (17-7, 6-4 ASUN) had five players in double-figure scoring, led by Antwainette Walker who recorded 17 points going 50 percent from the floor.  Following Walker, Althea Kara Angeles (13), Ivy Turner (12), Alice Recanati (11), and Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor (10) were the other four Colonels in double figures.

McGinnis-Taylor brought down a career-best 13 rebounds, notching the third double-double of her career.

In the win, Recanati surpassed 500 career assists, becoming one of 13 active DI player with 1,000 points, 500 assists, and 400 rebounds in their career.  Recanati joined a star-studded list that includes the likes of Iowa's Caitlin Clark and several other NCAA Tournament participants.

Two baskets from McGinnis-Taylor started an 11-4 EKU run to open Thursday's game.  Queens (6-17, 0-10 ASUN) clawed its way back, bringing the deficit to just one point at the media timeout.  Senior forward Bridgid Fox knocked down a three, pushing the Colonels to another 11-4 run, ending the first quarter with a nine-point, 26-16 lead.

EKU's Brie Crittendon, who knocked down two three pointers in the win, hit her first to open the second quarter, pushing the Colonel lead to 12.  A three from Ivy Turner at the buzzer, which eclipsed 1,500 points for her career, ended the first half with the Colonels largest lead of the game of 25 and a 51-26 lead.

Another three from Crittendon would mark a 31-point lead for the Colonels with 8:17 remaining in the third period.  Queens would narrow the gap to 18 points before Angeles ended the frame with two three pointers and a 24-point, 67-43 EKU lead.

EKU hit three 3-pointers on its first three possessions of the fourth quarter, helping push a 28-point lead four times in the quarter.  The Colonels would hold off the Royals comeback efforts, ending Thursday's contest with a 88-67 final score.

Thursday's win marked EKU's second straight win over Queens inside Atlantic Sun Conference play.  Both of EKU's wins over Queens have come by 20 or more points, including a 33-point win over the Royals last season, the Colonels second-largest win margin over a conference opponent in program history.

EKU shot a crisp 50.8 percent from the floor, its third game this season shooting 50 percent or better.  The Colonels knocked down a season-high 11 three-pointers in the win, while widely defeated QUC on the glass, 45-29.

EKU returns to action on Saturday facing Kennesaw State at 4 p.m. EST for Youth Sports Day back inside Baptist Health Arena.
