Softball Hosts Kennesaw State for Weekend Series

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball program, riding its best start to a season in program history, will host Kennesaw State for a three-game series this weekend at Gertrude Hood Field.
 
Saturday's doubleheader will go at 1 & 3:30 p.m. EST and be TV Show Day/Snack Bowl Giveaway at the ballpark.  The series will conclude at 1 p.m. on Sunday and will be Kids Day.
 
Fans can purchase tickets online here or at the box office starting at just $5.  This weekend's game is scheduled to be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
EKU (20-4, 3-0 ASUN) is coming off a series sweep at defending conference champion Central Arkansas last weekend.  The Colonels enter the KSU series on an 11-game win streak and have won 11 straight games at home.
 
EKU's Jeanay Riley was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week following a 6-of-14 (.428) showing with seven RBIs and two doubles as the Colonels won four games on the week over WKU, UCA.
 
For EKU, underclassmen Jaelin Haynes and Kennedy Drafton lead the Colonels with a .400 batting average, combining for 52 hits, 46 runs, 26 RBIs, nine doubles, three triples, and two home runs.
 
Seven of EKU's nine traditional starters are hitting over .300, helping the Colonels in their conference-leading batting totals.
 
As of Thursday, EKU is atop the ASUN Conference standings with its 20-4 record and 3-0 mark in league play.
 
Kennesaw State (10-18, 2-1 ASUN) enters the week winning its first conference series at home over Stetson last weekend.  The Owls also won a midweek clash against Tennessee Tech by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday at home.
 
The Owls are led by junior infielder Kassidy Amerson-Fox, who leads the club with a .319 batting average with 23 hits in 72 at-bats.  She has five doubles this season and is tied with the team lead with two home runs.
 
In the circle, Kenley Hilleary (3-3) leads KSU with a 2.90 ERA and 41 strikeouts in a team-leading 17 appearances.
