RICHMOND, Ky. – In a game that saw 17 lead changes and 17 ties, Eastern Kentucky University lost 67-65 to Jacksonville University on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament at Baptist Health Arena.
Michael Moreno's lay-up with 1:34 to play tied the game for the final time, 63-63. Robert McCray hit one of two free throws. The Dolphins (16-16) then beat a trap near halfcourt and found Bryce Workman for a lay-up and a 3-point lead, 66-63, with 21 seconds remaining.
Tayshawn Comer's free throw with 3.6 seconds on the clock made it a 2-point game, 67-65. He missed the next and Moreno grabbed the offensive rebound. The senior got off a shot to tie at the buzzer but missed.
Isaiah Cozart finished with 18 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. The Richmond native will finish the season averaging 15.6 points and 10 rebounds per game. Just the 25th time in program history a Colonels has averaged a double-double during a season. He also finished the 2023-24 campaign with 467 points and 301 rebounds, just the sixth time in program history a player has eclipsed 400 points and 300 rebounds in the same season.
Devontae Blanton had 15 points.
Workman led all players with 25 points to go along with 12 rebounds. McCray scored 24 points.
EKU (17-14) shot 44 percent from the field for the game while limiting Jacksonville to 38 percent shooting. The Colonels made just 3-of-16 from 3-point range and were out-scored at the free throw line by nine.
