JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team (20-6, 5-2 ASUN) hits the road for a match against North Florida (10-8, 6-0 ASUN) on Friday at 5:00 p.m. at the UNF Tennis Complex.
THE COLONELS
EKU heads into the match with a 20-6 record, defeating FGCU by a score of 4-3 on April 7. The Maroon and White finished the 2024 home slate with a 16-0 mark and clinched a spot in the ASUN Conference Championship with the win against Florida Gulf Coast. EKU's home record is the best in the country. The Colonels beat No. 68 Stetson by a score of 5-2 on April 5, marking the first win against a ranked opponent in program history. The Maroon and White secured victories against Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Queens, No. 68 Stetson, and FGCU in Atlantic Sun Conference play. EKU enjoyed a 12-game winning streak from Jan. 31 to March 2, tying the program's longest winning streak.
The Maroon and White are led by
Evzen Holis, who boasts a 16-7 record in singles play this season. He has been named ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week three times this season. Holis is tied for the most singles wins in the ASUN.
Moritz Mayer has a 15-10 mark in singles play this season. He beat Georgia's Miguel Perez Pena in singles play on Jan. 22, who was the No. 43 singles player in the country, as marking the highest-ranked singles win in program history. The Eutingen, Germany product won the ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week twice.
Paul-Antoine Brazet and
Fernando Bulnes also boast 15 and 14 singles wins, respectively. Bulnes is riding a five-match winning streak in singles play. EKU holds a 91-62 record in singles play as a team this season.
Mario Monclus Martin and Mayer form the leading doubles pair, with a 12-5 record from the top two spots in the lineup. Mayer leads the team with 14 doubles wins. The Colonels have secured the doubles point in 16 out of their last 21 matches, boasting a 38-20 record in doubles this season.
SCOUTING NO. 75 NORTH FLORIDA
North Florida enters the contest with a 10-8 mark, beating Austin Peay by a score of 7-0 on April 7. UNF is in first place in ASUN Conference play, clinching a spot in the ASUN Conference Championship with the win against Austin Peay. The Ospreys are riding an eight-match winning streak, including an undefeated ASUN record. UNF is ranked No. 75 in the latest ITA Team Rankings. North Florida is led by Jonas Hartenstein and Rodrigo Crespo in doubles, boasting a 14-3 record from the top court. UNF beat EKU by a score of 6-1 in 2023, as the Ospreys lead the all-time series 4-0.
