EKU Men’s Tennis Looks To Acquire Top 3 Seed In ASUN Conference Championship Against No. 73 Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team (20-7, 5-3 ASUN) looks to acquire a top-three seed in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship against Kennesaw State (13-5, 6-2 ASUN) on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Betty Siegel Tennis Courts.
 
The Maroon and White will acquire the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye with a win against Kennesaw State and a North Alabama loss against Bellarmine on Sunday. With a UNA and EKU win, the Colonels will get the No. 3 seed.
 
THE COLONELS
EKU heads into the match with a 20-7 record, falling to No. 75 North Florida by a score of 7-0 on April 12. The Maroon and White finished the 2024 home slate with a 16-0 mark and clinched a spot in the ASUN Conference Championship with the win against Florida Gulf Coast. EKU's home record is the best in the nation. The Colonels beat No. 68 Stetson by a score of 5-2 on April 5, marking the first win against a ranked opponent in program history. The Maroon and White secured victories against Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Queens, No. 68 Stetson, and FGCU in ASUN Conference play. EKU enjoyed a 12-game winning streak from Jan. 31 to March 2, tying the program's longest winning streak.
 
The Maroon and White are led by Evzen Holis, who boasts a 16-8 record in singles play this season. He has been named ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week three times this season. Holis is tied for the most singles wins in the ASUN.
 
Moritz Mayer has a 15-11 mark in singles play this season. He beat Georgia's Miguel Perez Pena in singles play on Jan. 22, who was the No. 43 singles player in the country, marking the highest-ranked singles win in program history. The Eutingen, Germany product won the ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week twice.
 
Paul-Antoine Brazet and Fernando Bulnes also boast 15 and 14 singles wins, respectively. Bulnes is riding a five-match winning streak in singles play. EKU holds a 91-68 record in singles play as a team this season.
 
Mario Monclus Martin and Mayer form the leading doubles pair, with a 12-6 record from the top two spots in the lineup. Mayer leads the team with 14 doubles wins. The Colonels have secured the doubles point in 16 out of their last 22 matches, boasting a 38-22 record in doubles this season.
 
SCOUTING NO. 73 KENNESAW STATE
Kennesaw State enters the contest with a 13-5 mark, beating Queens by a score of 6-1 on April 12. KSU is ranked No. 73 in the latest ITA Team Rankings. The Owls are led by Raul Garcia in singles and doubles play, posting a team-high 12 singles wins and 11 doubles wins from the top court. Kennesaw State beat EKU by a score of 7-0 in 2023, as they lead the all-time series 2-1.
