Franklin Hits Two Home Runs, Drives In Seven To Lead EKU To Win In Series Finale

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Ron Franklin Jr. hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in seven runs to propel Eastern Kentucky University to a 10-8 victory over Queens in the series finale on Sunday at Earle Combs Stadium.
 
Franklin finished 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs to go along with his seven RBIs.  He staked the Colonels to a 2-0 lead with a 2-run home run over the wall in left center in the bottom of the second.  Franklin came back to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs in the third inning.  This time he launched a 2-1 pitch over the wall in left field.
 
The Royals battled back from a 6-0 deficit and took the lead in the sixth on an inside the park, 2-run home run from Dillon Lewis.  The ball hit high off the wall in left center and bounced way back toward the infield.
 
EKU came back with two runs in the bottom half of the sixth to take the lead for good.  Max Williams singled through the right side with two outs to bring home the tying run.  Franklin followed with a single to left center to drive in his seventh run of the game and give the Colonels (10-25, 7-8 ASUN) an 8-7 lead.
 
With two runners on for EKU in the seventh, Justin Carinci brought home both with a triple down the right field line, pushing the home team ahead 10-7.
 
Williams had a 4-for-4 day with two runs and an RBI.  Carinci finished 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.  The Colonels drew 11 walks in the game, including four from Miguel Larreal and three from freshman Tait Nunnally.
 
Matthew Corlew went 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs for Queens (10-25, 6-9 ASUN).
 
EKU will play at Cincinnati on Tuesday.  The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
