Baseball Drops Game Two Of Series At Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. –
Eastern Kentucky University allowed 10 home runs in a 17-5 loss to Austin Peay in the second game of the Atlantic Sun Conference weekend series on Saturday.
 
EKU grabbed the early lead on Tait Nunnally's sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning.  The Governors responded by scoring four straight.  Lyle Miller-Green hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first and Gus Freeman hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the second inning.
 
The Colonels came back in the third.  After Mauri Bejarano scored on a wild pitch, Silas Shaffer tied the game, 4-4, with a 2-out, 2-run single to left field.
 
Solo home runs from Jon Jon Gazdar and John Bay in the bottom of the third put the home team back on top by two, 6-4.
 
Austin Peay's fifth home run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded.  Brody Szako's shot over the wall in right center turned it into a 10-4 lead for the Govs.
 
Shaffer closed the gap to five with a solo home run for EKU in the top of the fifth.  It was his fourth of the season.  The Govs came right back in the bottom half and went back in front by six on Ambren Voitik's lead-off homer.  Miller-Green hit his second of the game and the seventh for Austin Peay later in the inning with a runner on to push the margin to 13-5.  Szako followed with his second dinger of the game.  Gazdar then hit his second of the game for a 10-run advantage, 15-5.
 
Clayton Gray hit the final home run of the game, a 2-run shot in the bottom of the sixth.  The game ended by run rule after seven innings.
 
Shaffer went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs for EKU (12-30, 8-12 ASUN).
 
Seven different players finished with at least one home run for APSU (26-16, 13-7 ASUN).  Miller-Green, Szako and Gazdar hit two each.  Miller-Green was 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs and four RBIs.  Szako finished 2-for-5 with two runs and five RBIs.
 
The series finale is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
