Early Home Runs Doom Colonels In Rubber Game Loss To FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. –
Eastern Kentucky University allowed two home runs in the first three innings of a 5-0 loss at Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday.  The two teams had split the first two games of the series.
 
Evan Dempsey hit a 2-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the first for the Eagles (25-24, 17-10 ASUN).  Charles Davalan's leadoff homer in the third made it a 3-0 FGCU lead.
 
EKU starter Ryker Walton allowed three runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings.  He walked only one and struck out six.  Isaac Milburn pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three of the six batters he faced.
 
Two runs scored for Florida Gulf Coast in the seventh on an EKU throwing error.
 
FGCU starter Justin Henschel (4-2) allowed just three hits in seven shutout innings.  He walked one and struck out four.  Dempsey finished 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
 
Justin Carinci, Miguel Larreal and Tait Nunnally had one hit each for the Colonels (18-34, 12-15 ASUN).
 
The Colonels are scheduled to play at Morehead State on Tuesday before wrapping up the regular season at home against Jacksonville starting Thursday.
