MOREHEAD, Ky. – Tait Nunnally hit a 2-run home run and
Justin Carinci had four hits, including his first home run of the season, as Eastern Kentucky University beat Morehead State, 14-5, on Tuesday.

The Colonels got off to a quick start. Carinci began the game with a double to right center and moved to third on a fly out to center. The senior second baseman then scored on a sacrifice fly from
Conner Davis. After a single through the left side off the bat of
Max Williams, Nunnally, a freshman outfielder, launched his 11th home run of the season over the wall in right field for a 3-0 advantage.

EKU added to its lead in the second. After loading the bases with no outs,
DJ Sullivan scored when Carinci was hit by a pitch.Â
Miguel Larreal made it 5-0 with an RBI single to center field. Davis drove in two more with a single to right field.

The Eagles (30-22) got on the board in the bottom of the third. With two outs and two on, Morehead State received helped from a bad bounce on a ground ball up the middle that could have ended the inning, but loaded the bases instead. Nick Gooden followed with a 2-run single to center. Hunter Thomas drove in a run with another infield single to close the gap to 7-3.

The Colonels (19-34) responded in the top half of the fourth by scoring four runs. Carinci's 2-run single to left highlighted another big inning for the visitors and made it 11-3.

Carinci's first homer of the season came in the top of the ninth. Later in the inning, Nunnally drove in two more with a double down the right field line, pushing the visitors out in front 14-5. Carinci finished 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBIs. Nunnally was 3-for-6 with two runs and four driven in. Davis went 1-for-1 with three RBIs.

EKU starter Jack Watters struck out six in three innings of work. He allowed three runs on five hits and walked two.

Gooden went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs. Roman Kuntz had a 2-for-5 day with two runs scored for Morehead State.

The Colonels will close out the regular season with a 3-game series at home against Jacksonville starting on Thursday.
