Colonels Split Doubleheader With Second Place Jacksonville

Game 1 Box Score  |  Game 2 Box Score

Game three of the series will be played Saturday at 11 a.m.

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University moved one step closer to securing a spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament with a doubleheader split at home against Jacksonville on Thursday.  JU won the first game 8-5 before the Colonels took game two, 5-2.

In game one, Ron Franklin Jr. staked EKU to a 1-0 lead with his 17th home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning.

The Dolphins plated three in the top of the third inning and then pulled away with five runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings.  In the 3-run sixth, Jaden Bastian and Tyrell Brewer had back-to-back RBI singles and Chandler Howard followed with a run scoring double to make it 8-1.

Max Williams and DJ Sullivan hit solo home runs in a 3-run eighth for the Colonels that closed the gap to 8-5.  It was the ninth of the season for Williams and fourth for Sullivan.

Miguel Larreal had a 2-for-4 game with two RBIs for EKU.  Williams went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Brewer finished 2-for-4 with a run and four RBIs for the Dolphins.

The Colonels (20-35, 13-16 ASUN) took a lead in the first inning of game two on an RBI double from Williams.  Jacksonville (25-28, 18-11 ASUN) tied it in the top of the second when Josh Steidl drove in Howard with a single up the middle.

Conner Davis put the home team on top 2-1 with an infield single in the third that scored Justin Carinci.  An EKU error in the fifth allowed the Dolphins to tie it again 2-2.

Davis came right back and broke that tie with a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth.  It was his fifth of the season.  Tait Nunnally's double down the right field line later in the inning pushed the Colonels out in front 4-2.

Larreal finished 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI in game two.  Davis had two hits in five at bats, scored once and drove in two.  Ryker Walton started on the mound for EKU.  He struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits.

Howard went 2-or-5 with a run scored for Jacksonville.
