RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University has unveiled its themes and the first four start times for the 2024 home football season.
The Colonels will have six home games on CG Bank Field at Roy Kidd Stadium, with the home opener set for Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. against new United Athletic Conference foe, West Georgia.
The 2024 home opener kicks off a three-game home stand and will be a "Maroon Out" with all fans encouraged to wear maroon and show their EKU pride. Additionally, the day will be Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day, with discounted faculty and staff tickets becoming available at a later date.
On Sept. 21, EKU faces in-state rival Morehead State at 6 p.m. on what will be "Kids at the Kidd" day (formerly Youth Sports Day), with all children 12-years of age or under being eligible for complimentary and discounted tickets. The Colonels will also be having a halftime run on the field where for all children in attendance to come down the hill in the north endzone on to the field just as the team does before every home game.
The 21st will also be the annual Extra Yard For Teachers game as EKU joins college football programs across the country to recognize teachers in our local community. Through the College Football Playoff Foundation, the Extra Yard for Teachers campaign elevates the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering teachers through the implementation of programs in four focus areas: resources, recognition, recruitment and professional development. Teachers with current staff IDs from local schools will also be eligible for complimentary and discounted ticket rates.
The final game of the three-game home stand comes on Sept. 28 against Robert Morris at 2 p.m. That game will be on EKU's Family Weekend, the annual Pink Game to kickoff Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the EKU Hall of Fame Game.
Beginning that Friday, EKU welcomes students' families for our annual family weekend tradition. The weekend is highlighted by the Colonel-Val where students and their families will be able to partake in a carnival like experience as a part of the gameday outside the venue.
The Colonels will honor the athletics department's 2024 class of hall of fame inductees this day as well. More information about the Hall of Fame celebration will be released at a later date.
After three weeks, EKU returns home on Oct. 26 for Homecoming as they welcome the entire Colonel family back to The Campus Beautiful. The Colonels will face Utah Tech this day at 3 p.m. EKU Homecoming information can be found by clicking here.
On Nov.9, Central Arkansas comes to Richmond for the Colonels' Salute to Service. In honor of all active and retired military and service members, EKU will have an array of displays and performances dedicated to those individuals and units. Complimentary and discounted tickets will be available at a later date for all active and retired military and service members.
The Colonels close out the 2024 regular season at home on Nov. 23 for Senior Day, where the team will recognize all members of its graduating class. The final game will also be high school band day as EKU's Marching Colonel for a Day program provides high school students the opportunity to perform with the Marching Colonels at Roy Kidd Stadium during a home football game.
