Recanati Selected to Atlantic Sun Winter Winners for Life Team

ATLANTA  –  Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball guard Alice Recanati was named to the 2023-24 Atlantic Sun Conference Winter Winners for Life Team, announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

Recanati, a staple in the program over the last four seasons, concluded a 2023-24 campaign in March that saw the team advance to the ASUN Conference semifinals for the first time in the league, earn an at-large bid to the 2024 Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT), and win 20 games for the first time since 2005.

Last season, Recanati started in all 34 games and averaged a career-best 10.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. She had a career-high 28 points in a home win over Northern Kentucky and had 20 other games scoring in double-figures. The Bergamo, Italy native was named Third Team All-ASUN, the first conference postseason award of her career, while also being named the 2024 ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the first nod for a student-athlete in program history.

Additionally, Recanati dished out a team-high 144 assists to become EKU's program leader in career assists (537), passing a 32-year-old record held by Angie Cox since 1992. Since EKU joined the ASUN Conference in 2021, Recanati has totaled 135 or more assists in all three seasons in the league, she is top 25 in ASUN Conference history in assists (447) heading into next year.

Recanati will also enter the 2024-25 season top 25 in program history in points (19th), field goals made (16th), three-point field goals made (16th), free throws made (12th), rebounds (25th), steals (9th), games played (2nd), and games started (2nd).

She will also be one of eight players nationally with 1,000 points, 500 assists, and 400 rebounds in their career – a list she was on with WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark from Iowa.

Academically, Recanati held a 3.92 GPA while earning a degree in chemistry, concentrating in biochemistry. She's a three-time Academic All-ASUN and two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection.

Recanati also logged countless hours giving back to the local community last season, notably highlighted by serving as a tutor in EKU's Bratzke Academic Center.

The ASUN Winners for Life Team is composed of one student-athlete from all 14 institutions and honors those who display excellence on and off the playing surface. The team honors a campus citizen that is respected as one who shares and/or demonstrates the ASUN Core Values: Education, Honesty, Student-Athlete Experience, Fairness, Health, Ambition, Respect, Diversity, Inclusion, Leadership, Responsibility, and Sportsmanship.

To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must have competed in the current academic year in an ASUN-sponsored sport and be in good academic standing at his/her university.

Wednesday's award marks the second consecutive season an EKU women's basketball student-athlete has been named to the award. Recanati is one of three ASUN women's basketball student-athletes on the list.
