JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer program falls to East Tennessee State by a score of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
Freshman
Ana Manning led EKU (0-2) with three shot attempts in Sunday's contest. Through the opening two matches of the 2024 season the Cincinnati, Ohio native leads the program with five shot attempts, four on target.
Fellow freshman
Ella Grode ended the fixture with two shot attempts.
The Colonels used two goalkeepers in Sunday's match, highlighted by senior
Marah Krick who led with seven saves in the first half, one shy of tying her career best.
Freshman
Ruby Morgan made her collegiate debut in the second half of Sunday's contest, finishing with two saves and zero goals allowed despite facing 13 shot attempts.
ETSU (1-1) got on the board in the 34th minute as Grace Eatz used her right boot to find the top of the netting from 10+ yards out off a free kick.
The Colonels failed to respond in the final 11 minutes of the period as a heavy rain fell on the pitch, subsequently followed by a 45-minute lightning delay that extended the halftime break.
After the delay, EKU responded in the latter period and doubled its shot totals from the first half. Despite the added effort, the Colonels were unable to find the equalizer to end Sunday's contest on the wrong end of a 1-0 result.
EKU will return home for its next three matches starting with regional foe Morehead State on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 4 p.m. EST. The match is free to the public with gates opening one hour and 30 minutes before kickoff.
